Empowering Civic Engagement with Digital Technologies

Achievements

Since launching in Fall 2008 Digital Democracy has:

  • Conducted research and trainings on four continents
  • Won two major awards for our Handheld Human Rights project including third place at UC Berkeley Human Rights Center Soul of the New Machine, and a social justice award at N2Y4
  • Led technology and security trainings with dozens of journalists and bloggers from repressive regimes
  • Provided computer skills certification for over 50 students from Thailand, Singapore and Burma
  • Trained 45 youth in Haiti, Bangladesh, Thailand and South Africa in photography skills for our Project Einstein
  • Co-sponsored Participation Camp in New York
  • Submitted written testimony to US Congress in the Helskinki Commission briefing on “Twitter vs. Tyranny”
  • Received an invitation to attended Secretary Clintonʼs speech on “Internet Freedom”
